  • Fw: Opportunity for Students: EMBARC x TSP Basic Needs Grant & Info Sessions

    Hello,

My name is Elizabeth Leon Garcia, and I serve as the Project Coordinator for EMBARC (Educational Modules to Broaden Academic Research Cultures) housed at the CSUN Health Equity Research and Education (HERE) Center. We are a program grounded in Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) which emphasizes the importance of students’ cultural strengths as they navigate STEMM fields.

While EMBARC emphasizes students in STEMM disciplines, we embrace a broad understanding of STEMM. EMBARC supports students across a wide range of STEMM and related majors, including fields that address health, equity, and community well-being. Example majors are listed in an attached flyer, but all students interested in research are welcome.

This year, EMBARC is partnering with the CSUN Transfer Success Pathway (TSP) Program to bring students the Basic Needs Grant, which provides:

    • Basic needs funding for eligible students (a one-time grant of $250).

    •  Workshops and opportunities to explore and engage with research, especially related to health equity.

We would greatly appreciate your support in sharing the attached EMBARC x TSP Basic Needs Grant Application flyer with your students and your campus community at Santa Monica College.

Students can access the application for our Basic Needs Grant through our flyer or the link I have pasted here for reference: http://bit.ly/EMBARC-TSP-BasicNeedsGrant

Students interested in learning more are encouraged to attend one of our upcoming information sessions:

    • Friday, December 19th 10AM – 11AM

    • Monday, December 22nd 7PM – 8PM
    • Monday, December 29th 7PM – 8PM

    Information session sign-up: https://forms.office.com/r/jKeHeg1u24

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Additional details about EMBARC can be found on our website: https://www.csun.edu/here-center/embarc

If you have issues viewing the attachments, you can also view them through the link I have pasted here: https://mycsun.box.com/s/hxube1r1iuexzvhe7yn82cnjxjf0hc1x

Thank you so much for helping us connect students to these valuable opportunities. 😊

    Warm regards,
    Elizabeth Leon Garcia

  • Budget Forum, Monday 11/24, 11am

    Hi Professors,
My name is Aylen Gutierrez, and I am this year’s Director of Publicity. As you may or may not know, there will be a Budget Forum on November 24 regarding the deficit we are currently facing.
I would like to kindly ask if you could share this flyer with your class and encourage students to attend and voice their opinions, as this issue affects the entire student body. We are encouraging students to participate, and I need your help to spread the word. This is an important issue, and increased student involvement can provide valuable insight to the people making decisions about what is most beneficial for students.
Thank you so much for your support. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Have a great day!

  • Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) (Application Opens November 1, 2025)

The Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) through the Leadership Alliance is a fully paid summer internship that provides undergraduates with training and mentoring in the principles underlying the conduct of research and prepares them to pursue competitive applications to PhD or MD-PhD programs.

Spend 8-10 weeks of paid, scholarly research at one of the 20+ institutions across the US. Research opportunities in applied math, computer science, education, engineering, humanities, life sciences, math, physical sciences, psychology, and social sciences.

Additional Info: Unless your academic schedule permits, do not choose research sites where the summer programs start in May. You are also not allowed to identify more than 3 academic research sites in your application. You might also want to check the individual host research sites, for additional exceptions. Although there are no guarantees, some programs in the past have allowed non-US citizens to apply through their internal campus applications (non-Leadership Alliance website) as research sites can be funded through different ways.

Program Website, Host Research Sites, and Application: https://theleadershipalliance.org/summer-research-early-identification-program (Actual application available  November 1, 2025 but host research sites have already posted info.)

Deadline: Application, two letters of recommendations, and transcripts due February 3, 2026.

    Who is Eligible

To participate in the Summer Research Early Identification Program through Leadership Alliance, you must:

    • Be a documented U.S. citizen or non-citizen national, or permanent resident in possession of an alien registration receipt card (I-551) or another legal document of such status at the time of application. International citizens studying in the United States with an F-1 Visa are not eligible for the SR-EIP. Individuals seeking asylum or refugees are not eligible. (See additional note above)
    • Be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited public or private college or university in the United States or its territories, as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
    • Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better.
    • Demonstrate a committed interest to pursue graduate study toward a PhD or MD-PhD.*
    • Have completed at least two semesters and have at least one semester remaining of their undergraduate education by the start of the summer program.
