UCSC Lamat Summer 2026 Program in Astro/Astrophysics – Community College Students Encouraged to Apply! (apps due December 1)

UCSC Lamat Summer 2026 Program

The UC Santa Cruz Lamat summer program application is due by December 1, 2025. Lamat (which means star in Mayan) is an 8-week funded summer program designed to introduce undergraduate students to astrophysical research methods and tools through original projects in computational astrophysics. Participants work closely with faculty and PhD students at UCSC from the Physics, Applied Math, Earth and Planetary Sciences and Astronomy Departments. The program also includes a winter science computational boot camp taking place January 12-14, 2026 (travel dates for those flying in will be January 11 and 15) at UC Santa Cruz with stipend, transportation and lodging for boot camp participants.

Applications are open to all undergraduate students, but the Lamat Programs particularly encourages science and engineering students from community colleges to apply. Undocumented and F1 students will be considered to participate in the LAMAT program but funding for these participants is limited. The principal selection criteria are academic record and promise of future achievement.
